Serious question, is it okay to take the last parking spot if you see someone else circling for it?
I was at the hardware store yesterday and saw a guy clearly waiting for a spot, but I got there first. I took it, but it felt wrong because I saw him. The difference was just paying attention to other people instead of only my own errand. Do you let someone else have it if you see them first?

Honestly, the "difference was just paying attention" part is the whole thing. If you see them, you're now part of the situation. I mean, taking it is technically fine, but you gotta live with being the guy who saw a dude waiting and still swooped in. I'd feel like a jerk, so I let them have it. It's just less bad karma for a few extra minutes of circling.

Hmm, I actually see it a bit different. Taking the spot fair and square is just part of parking lot life. The other driver circling doesn't automatically give them dibs, you know? I've been the one circling plenty of times and yeah it stings, but I don't expect random strangers to play parking lot psychic for me. In my experience, most people are just trying to get their errands done too. If you saw him first but got there before him, that's just how it works out sometimes. Your mileage may vary obviously, but I think kicking yourself over it is giving away too much parking lot power.
