Vent: I spent $75 on a 'green' cleaning kit that just made more trash
I saw an ad for a zero-waste cleaning set with bamboo brushes and special cloths. Bought the whole kit for $75 online about six weeks ago. The bamboo handle on the main brush split after a month, and the 'washable' cloths started falling apart in the wash. Now I have to throw them out, which feels worse than just using my old sponge. I wanted to make a better choice, but it ended up being wasteful in a new way. Has anyone found a cleaning tool that actually lasts more than a few months?

Man that's so frustrating, it's like they get you with the good intentions. I read something about how a lot of bamboo stuff is just cheaply made and glued together, so it falls apart fast. Owens.nancy is right on the money with the greenwashing call, it's everywhere now. Honestly my most reliable thing is just a basic dish brush from the hardware store, it's outlasted any fancy eco brand by years. Feels like you can't win sometimes.

Yeah same thing happened to me with some "compostable" cleaning brushes I bought last year. The bristles just fell out after a few uses and the handle got all moldy inside. Its so annoying how these companies charge double for stuff that breaks way faster than the regular plastic stuff I was trying to replace. I ended up going back to a cheap scrub brush with a metal handle and it's still going strong two years later. The whole thing just makes me mad because I wanted to do the right thing and got burned for it.
