Watched a neighbor in Philly compost for 3 years before I finally tried it

I used to think composting was just a bunch of crunchy hobby stuff that attracted rats. Then my neighbor across the street, Mike, kept leaving me bags of this dark soil that made my tomatoes go crazy. I asked him about it one day and he showed me his bin, just a plastic tumbler from Home Depot, no smell or rodents at all. This was two summers ago when my pepper plants kept dying in bad dirt. I started with just coffee grounds and eggshells, then got brave enough to throw in yard clippings. Now I've got a two bin system in the back corner of my yard and I'm saving maybe $40 a season on fertilizer. Anyone else get talked into something by just watching a neighbor do it right for a long time?

Buddy of mine in Baltimore watched his next door neighbor maintain a compost bin for like five years before he finally gave it a shot. He kept saying it looked like a science experiment he didn't want to mess up. Then one spring his garden soil was basically clay and the neighbor gave him a bucket of that black gold and his tomatoes went from sad to stupid big. Now he's got three bins and tells everyone who visits about his "worm farm" like it's a pet.

Your buddy calling it a "worm farm" like it's some exotic pet is hilarious... next thing you know he'll be naming them and introducing them to visitors.
