Appreciation post: The $5 hook that fixed my overflowing key dish

Honestly, my key dish by the door was always overflowing with mail, keys, and random coins. Last Tuesday I grabbed a 3M command hook from the dollar store for five bucks and stuck it right under the dish. Now I hang my keys on the hook and toss everything else in the dish. Has anyone else found a tiny tweak like that that just made a morning less annoying?

Adding a small tray or bowl higher up on the wall lets you dump the dish contents into it for sorting later without taking up counter space. You ever tried a "staging area" for your stuff?

That's a decent idea @haydenj90 but adding another tray higher up means im creating a whole new spot to ignore. My problem was I needed to stop the pile from happening, not just move it somewhere else. The hook under the dish works because it forces me to actually hang my keys instead of just dumping everything in a bowl. Adding a staging area would just let me put off dealing with the mail even longer. Keeping it simple with one hook and one dish is honestly all my brain can handle in the mornings.
