Forced to pick between a roller and a brush for ceiling texture
I had to match a 40-year-old popcorn ceiling in a rental flip outside Columbus, and everyone said use a hopper gun. I went with a thick nap roller instead and it blended perfectly in half the time. Why do people complicate stuff that works fine the simple way?

You mentioned the roller blending perfectly, and that reminds me of when I tried to fix a patch of textured ceiling in my own place (a rental actually, so I feel your pain). I grabbed one of those cheap foam brushes because I was too lazy to walk back to the hardware store. Huge mistake. It left these weird ridges that looked nothing like the surrounding texture, so I had to sand it all down and start over. Ended up using a thick nap roller too, just like you, and it worked way better than I expected. I swear some people think you need specialized gear for everything, but half the time a simple roller or brush does the job fine if you're patient.

And it's not just painting stuff either. I see people buying fifty dollar specialized tools for jobs where a butter knife and some patience would do. Or they grab the most expensive power tool for a one-time repair. It's like we forgot how to improvise. That cheap foam brush story is a perfect example. Sometimes the wrong tool makes you learn why the simple one actually worked all along.
