My mailbox was slowly rusting apart until I tried this dumb trick

Last winter I noticed the bottom of my mailbox was getting crusty with rust, and by spring it had a hole the size of a quarter. I was about to drop 50 bucks on a new one at Home Depot when my dad told me to just flip it over and use the bottom as the top. Turns out the unpainted underside was totally fine, so I sanded the rusty side down, hit it with some spray paint, and flipped the whole thing upside down. That was three months ago and it's holding up great. Anyone else ever fix something by just flipping it around like that?

Three months isn't that long for a mailbox test man, lets check back in after a real winter with snow and salt to see if that flip really holds up.

You guys actually put his stuff through a winter yet? Around here three months is just the break-in period for anything that's gonna survive the real test.
