Spent 45 minutes trying to fix a squeaky door hinge before I tried the obvious thing
My office door has been squeaking for months. I tried WD-40, graphite powder, even took the hinge apart and cleaned it with a toothbrush. None of it worked for more than a day. Turns out the screw on the top hinge was just a quarter turn loose. Tightened it with a regular screwdriver in about 10 seconds and it's been quiet for two weeks now. Anyone else waste way too long on a fix that ended up being dead simple?

wait hold on... a QUARTER TURN? like you mean the screw was barely loose and that was causing months of squeaking? dude that is actually painful to read lol. i had a similar thing happen with my ceiling fan. it was wobbling so bad i thought the whole thing was gonna fall off. took the blades off, rebalanced everything, replaced the bracket. turned out one of the screws holding the light kit was just a tiny bit loose. tightened it and it was perfectly smooth again. felt like such an idiot. but hey at least you fixed it right? better than dealing with that squeak for another year.

and the worst part is you probably walked past that thing a hundred times thinking about fixing it but just never got around to it. @richard_sanchez43 reminds me of when my car door had a rattle for like 6 months and it was just a stray penny in the cup holder the whole time.
