The library clerk who fixed my late fee habit with one sentence

I used to rack up like $12 in late fees every month at the Oak Park library. One day the clerk, a guy named Mark, said 'just set your phone alarm for 6pm the day before they're due.' That simple trick saved me about $144 a year and I never forgot a due date since. Anyone else have a small tip from a stranger that stuck with you?

My neighbor's dog used to bark all night and I couldn't get the landlord to do anything. One day an old guy walking by told me to leave a radio on low volume near the shared wall playing talk shows. Turns out the dog got used to hearing voices and calmed right down. Never would have thought of that on my own. Cost me nothing and fixed a problem that was driving me crazy for months.
