Bought a cheap vacuum sealer vs a mid-range one, night and day difference

I used a $30 vacuum sealer off Amazon for about 6 months last year and it would barely seal bags. Seemed like half the time I'd pull a bag out of the freezer and find air had gotten back in. Finally spent $90 on a FoodSaver model after my neighbor swore by it. That was 8 months ago and I haven't had a single bag fail on me. The cheaper one just couldn't pull a strong enough vacuum I think. Anyone else run into this where spending a little more actually saved you money in the long run?

The cheap ones just don't have the oomph to actually pull a good vacuum (which is the whole point, right?). It's one of those things where the material quality on the seals and gaskets makes a huge difference over time, not just the motor. Funny how spending a bit more upfront stops you from wasting money on ruined food later.

Yeah, I actually read somewhere that the cheaper ones can't pull a strong enough seal in the first place... It's like the motor just doesn't have the guts. And like you said, @david_hayes, the seals and gaskets on those budget models start leaking air after a few months anyway, so you end up throwing away more food in the long run.
