My cheap vacuum sealed container failed and soaked my backpacking food
I packed 4 days of dehydrated meals into one of those Walmart vacuum seal containers for a trip to the Smokies last weekend. On day 2, I opened my pack and found the seal had popped, soaking everything in a puddle of rehydrated chili. I had to eat gas station crackers for 2 days straight after that. Anyone else had one of those vacuum containers crap out on them mid-trip?

Used to swear by those cheap vacuum seal containers, thought they were the budget hiker's best friend. But after mine turned a perfectly good curry into a soggy mess inside my pack last fall, I completely flipped my opinion. A Ziploc bag with the air squeezed out is still the best thing I've found, even if it feels like going back to basics. Nothing ruins a trail day like realizing dinner is now soaking through your spare socks and sleeping bag liner.

Funny how that happens, right? You try something fancy and it just lets you down, while the old basic stuff still works. Kinda feels like that with a lot of stuff lately, not just gear.
