Pro tip: Always test your freezer hack before you need it

I read this post from a guy who said he freezes his milk in old water bottles to keep his cooler cold without soggy ice. Sounded genius so I tried it last weekend before a beach trip to Myrtle Beach. Problem was the plastic bottles expanded and cracked in the freezer, leaving a puddle of milk everywhere. Now I'm wondering if glass bottles would work better or if you should just stick with juice cartons. Anyone else tried this and found a version that actually works?

My 2% milk did the same thing in those cheap store brand bottles, cracked and leaked all over my frozen peas. What size bottles were you using and did you leave any room at the top for the milk to expand? I think the trick might be using half gallon jugs with a good inch of air space but I haven't tested that yet.

Yeah, gallon jugs with no air space. Leave an inch and you're fine.
