Took me three months to figure out a $2 fix for a squeaky door hinge
I spent forever googling and trying different oils and sprays... turns out it was just a loose hinge pin that needed tapping back in place with a hammer and a nail. Has anyone else wasted way too long on a fix that ended up being stupid simple?

I was out here buying WD-40, graphite powder, even tried that expensive silicone spray. Finally my neighbor walks by, hears me cursing at it, and goes "have you tried just tightening the hinge screws?" Two minutes with a screwdriver and the squeak was gone. I spent like $15 and two weekends on a problem that could have been solved by looking at it for five seconds.

Actually WD-40 is a cleaner, not a lubricant, so that was probably making it worse.
