Found out my coffee maker was growing mold in a spot I never cleaned

I saw this fact sheet from a repair shop in Portland that said 1 in 5 coffee makers has mold in the water reservoir if you don't clean it monthly. I checked mine and there was this slimy film in the back corner I've never even looked at. Anyone else skip cleaning that thing and just run plain water through?

Honestly just running vinegar through mine once a month fixed the same issue for me.

Man I checked mine after reading this and found a patch that looked like a science experiment gone wrong. Ngl I thought running hot water through it every few days was good enough but apparently not. Tbh I'm just gonna switch to instant coffee for a while and pretend this whole situation never happened. At least with instant there's no hidden mold chambers plotting against you.
