I used to think those 'noise cancelling' earbuds were just hype
I got a pair for my commute on the bus to work and was ready to be let down. But after one ride where I didn't hear a single engine rumble, I had to admit they actually work. What's something you were sure was a gimmick that turned out to be real?

Yeah @jenny_sullivan97 I think that's how a lot of practical stuff goes. We see something small and write it off as dumb then realize it solves a tiny daily annoyance. Makes me wonder what else I've been ignoring that could actually make life easier if I just gave it a chance.

Thought those phone wallets were the dumbest idea ever. Just a piece of rubber stuck to your phone case. Bought one as a joke gift for my brother. Ended up keeping it for myself. Now I never leave my ID or a card behind. Felt like a total clown for making fun of it.

They still seem like a hassle when you need to get a card out quickly. That sticky rubber can wear out and lose its grip over time. It's just another thing that can go wrong when you're trying to pay for something.
