PSA: The grocery self-checkout glitch that made me lose 10 minutes today

I was at the Kroger on Miller Road around 5pm today, just trying to grab milk and bread real quick. The self-checkout machine scanned my milk twice and then froze when I tried to remove the duplicate. I stood there for like 2 minutes pressing buttons, but nothing worked. Finally I had to flag down the one cashier who was helping someone else with a coupon issue. She had to reboot the whole machine and re-scan everything from scratch. Meanwhile there's a line forming behind me and people are sighing loud enough to hear. So here's my debate: is it faster to just use a regular lane even if it has a line, or are self-checkouts still worth the risk? Has anyone else dealt with a scanner glitch that totally backfired on your quick errand?

Ten minutes of your life and you're posting a PSA about it? Sounds like a pretty standard Tuesday at any grocery store to me. The sighing people behind you probably forgot about it two minutes after you left, same as you should have. Maybe next time bring a book or something if a little wait is going to wreck your whole evening.
