The grocery store self-checkout decided to fight me over a single bell pepper

I was at the Safeway on Oak Street yesterday, just trying to buy a few things for dinner. I scanned a red bell pepper, and the machine yelled 'Please place the item in the bagging area' even though I already had. I tried to tell the attendant, but she was busy with another machine. After three tries, I just held the pepper up and said 'Look, it's right here' to the camera. Anyone else have the self-checkout pick a fight with the most basic item?

Those machines always seem to have a personal grudge against produce. I've started just using the regular line to avoid the argument.

Lee627, I've found the machines are pretty fair if you weigh things right.
