My uncle told me to always use a 16 penny nail for clinching, and I just had a shoe come loose

He swore by it for years, said it gave the best hold. I followed his advice on a big draft horse last week, and the clinch just didn't set right. The horse threw a shoe after two days. What nail size do you all prefer for clinching on heavier breeds?

Guess I should stop taking shoeing advice from the guy whose own horse went barefoot for a month.

Check your facts before you post. His horse was barefoot for a specific rehab protocol, not because of bad shoeing. That context changes everything.

Getting dragged into someone else's drama over shoeing advice sounds exhausting. Hope you're not letting this get to you too much.
