Showerthought: Is driving cross-country for a hoof care workshop overkill?

One side says seeing methods in person beats any video, but the other points out lost work days and high costs. Do you travel for training or stay local?

But honestly, how different can it really be? I get wanting to learn from the best, but burning that much gas and losing income for what, a slight tweak in technique? Most of the basics are the same everywhere. Seems like a local clinic or even a good online course would cover 99% of what you need without the crazy trip.

Hard to argue with @martin.tyler on the basics being mostly the same. That long drive only makes sense if you're chasing a very specific, advanced method you can't find locally. Most folks would get just as much from a nearby clinic.

My cousin drove almost 800 miles for a welding course last year and said it was totally worth it. I get what wren_hunt13 is saying about local stuff being enough for most people, but sometimes you just click with a certain teacher's way of doing things. If that person is across the country and you can make the trip work, why not. It's not always about learning something brand new, it's about that feeling of getting it right.
