Update: I was wrong about those new glue-on shoes

I thought the whole idea was just a fad for show horses, but I tried the EasyShoe system on a tough case in my own shop. After a month, the horse was moving better and the owner said it held up through a muddy trail ride. Has anyone else had a good result with a glue-on for a working animal?

Our farrier used them on a draft horse with chronic abscess issues.

We had good luck with a poultice and keeping the hoof really clean between trims.

The@the_sandra mentioned draft horses with abscess issues, and that rings a bell for me. Got a friend who hauls logs with a big Percheron cross, and glue-ons were a lifesaver after his abscess problems wouldn't quit with regular shoes. The vet said the constant pressure from nails was just making things worse, and the glue-on let the hoof wall breathe and heal while still giving him traction on rocky ground. My own mare had a cracked hoof that was slow to grow out, and switching to the glue-on for two cycles let me keep her in light work without the crack spreading. I was skeptical at first too, but for horses that can't handle nails or need extra time between trims, they're a solid option. Makes you rethink what you thought you knew about hoof care.
