Was dead set on aluminum shoes until a vet changed my mind

I've always used steel shoes for everything. Been doing it 8 years now. Last month a vet I respect told me to try aluminum on a mare with navicular issues. I figured she'd just tear them up in 3 weeks. But after 6 weeks they barely wore down and she moved way better. I'm gonna try them on a few more horses before I fully switch. Has anyone else had good luck with aluminum on performance horses?

Wow, that's wild to hear they held up that long! I'm curious how the mare's navicular has been doing since you switched - any improvement in her way of going besides just feeling better in the aluminum?

Funny how switching things up often reveals what we were missing all along, isn't it?
