Wasted $120 on a set of lightweight shoes that fell apart in 4 months

Bought those fancy aluminum shoes from a catalog last spring for $120 and by the time I'd shod 12 horses the rivet on the left one popped right out, has anyone else had that happen with the cheaper brands or did I just get a lemon?

That rivet failure is a common problem with those lightweight shoes.

Yeah, my pair of Trailblazer X1s had that exact rivet snap on the third hike. I was pretty ticked off because I specifically bought those for the lightweight design, but that rivet is basically the whole hinge for the strap. I tried to fix it with a zip tie but it just doesn't work the same. Ended up supergluing it back, which held for like two more trips before it gave out completely. For the price they charge, you'd think they'd use a stronger fastener. I'm with you 100% on this being a design flaw.
