A client in Portland asked me to make a dress from old shower curtains

She brought in three plastic curtains with a loud tropical print and said, "I want to feel like a walking greenhouse." I tried to explain the noise and sweat issue, but she insisted. I ended up using a thin cotton liner and only the curtain's trim to make it work. Has anyone else had to make something wearable from a totally wild material?

Honestly, that sounds like a missed opportunity! Plastic can be so bold and fun, and a full greenhouse look would have been iconic.

Missed opportunity is right. Plastic gets a bad rap but done right it looks amazing. Think clear chairs, those inflatable bubble sofas, even just thick vinyl curtains. It can be futuristic or funky, not just cheap. Going halfway with it is the actual crime.
