Had to choose between a corset back or a hidden zipper for a custom prom dress. Went with the corset for the 'drama', and the laces snapped halfway through the first slow dance.

What kind of laces were they? Cheap satin cords break if you look at them wrong... you needed something like a sturdy nylon ribbon. Did the dressmaker warn you it might need tightening as the night went on?

Used to think any lace would do, but a snapped cord at a wedding changed my mind fast.

My cousin Sarah had the exact same thing happen at her senior prom back in 2018, except she was wearing a tight satin corset back and all five eyelets ripped out when she sat down for dinner. Her dressmaker used those thin decorative cords that look pretty but have zero strength. If you ever sew a corset back again, ask for 1/2 inch nylon ribbon instead of the satin ones. Also most dressmakers won't mention this but you should always pre-stretch the laces by pulling on them hard before you ever thread them through the dress. Saves so much heartache.
