Hot take: my seam ripper saved my sanity after a total zipper fail
Was at my kitchen table last night trying to sew a zipper into a dress and somehow sewed the whole thing in upside down. Had to rip out 18 inches of stitches but honestly the dress looks better now than my first try.

Dude did you at least use a zipper foot or just wing it?

I've done it both ways and honestly hand-pressed seams with a good crease work just as well if you're careful with the fabric. The zipper foot can be a pain to set up and I've messed up more zippers by fighting with that foot than by just going slow with a regular one. You just have to pin everything right and use a shorter stitch length so it doesn't shift. Maybe it's a skill issue on my end but I'd rather take my time with a standard foot than deal with that wobbly zipper foot nonsense. What kind of fabric were you using?
