I used to hate the color orange until I saw a dress in a Portland shop window

Last Tuesday, I was walking down 23rd Street and saw this burnt orange maxi dress with these tiny green leaves embroidered along the neckline. The way the light hit it made the whole thing look like a sunset, and I just stood there for like five minutes. Now I'm sketching a whole collection based on that color combo. Has anyone else had a single piece of clothing completely flip their taste?

Remember this awful mustard yellow corduroy jacket my dad wore in every family photo from 1992. I swore I'd never wear that color, it just looked sickly to me. Then I found a vintage sweater in almost the same shade at a thrift store last fall, put it on as a joke, and it completely changed my face in the mirror. Something about the fabric and the cut made it work. Now I own three yellow things.

Totally get how a bad memory can ruin a color for you. My mom had this awful puffy lavender coat I hated as a kid. Finding the right piece in that shade later on is such a weird, satisfying win. It feels like taking the color back for yourself. Good on you for giving yellow another shot.

Watched my friend swear off pink after a bad bridesmaid dress, then she tried on a dusty rose blazer that looked amazing on her. It's wild how one good piece can rewrite your whole color rulebook, kinda like @the_miles finding the right yellow. She basically lives in that blazer now.
