Just realized my fabric sketches were way too stiff until I started using a cheap kids' marker.
I was struggling for months to get flowy, dynamic lines in my design sketches, and my professor in Austin said they looked 'tense'. On a whim, I grabbed my niece's Crayola washable marker and the loose, imperfect line it made was PERFECT. Does anyone have a favorite unexpected tool that changed their sketching process?

Oh totally! I had the same thing happen with a cheap ballpoint pen from a hotel. It just glides and skips in this perfect way my fancy pens never do, and my gesture drawings got so much looser. It's funny how the "wrong" tool can fix everything, right?
