Ran a natural dye workshop using store bought plants then foraged ones and the color payoff was night and day

The madder root I dug up from my backyard in Portland gave way richer reds than the dried stuff from Amazon, has anyone else noticed synthetic prep just kills the pigment compared to fresh material?

My buddy Sarah runs a little dye studio out of her garage and she swears by the same thing. She spent a whole summer comparing store bought weld against wild harvested stuff from the roadside near her place. The frozen or dried material from shops just gave this flat, muddy yellow while the fresh roadside weld popped like lemon rind. She said it was almost a different plant entirely once she saw the color side by side.
