Ran into an old coworker at Goodwill last Saturday who was wearing a dress she made from two thrifted curtains.

She told me she never buys fabric anymore, just rips seams and reworks whatever she finds. Has anyone else started sourcing materials from non-clothing items?

honestly I kinda hate this trend lol. thrift stores are already picked over enough without people buying up curtains and tablecloths just to cut them up. some of us actually need curtains for our windows you know?

Man that's a good point actually. I never thought about people who actually need curtains for their windows getting priced out. But honestly I think the bigger issue is how fast fast fashion has taken over thrift stores anyway. Half the stuff on the racks now is SHEIN or Amazon returns, not even real vintage or quality pieces. So if someone wants to repurpose a curtain into a dress, more power to them... at least they're making something that'll last longer than a season. The real problem is the whole system being broken, not people being creative with what they find.
