Saw a lady on the bus last week and it flipped my whole idea about layering
I was riding the 7 bus downtown around 4pm last Tuesday and this older woman sat across from me wearing a sheer long-sleeve shirt over a plain white tee, with a cropped knit vest on top and a scarf tied loose around her neck. Everything she had on was either black, gray, or a faded olive green but it looked SO put together without trying hard. I usually just throw on a hoodie and call it a day but watching her adjust that scarf while reading her phone made me realize I been overcomplicating my fits. I got home and dug out an old mesh top from 3 years ago and tried it over a basic tank and it actually looked decent. Has anyone else found that mixing textures instead of colors makes an outfit click?

Started doing this with my sweaters and flannels over plain t-shirts, same idea but with thicker fabrics. The scarf trick is key too, it breaks up the whole look without needing to match anything perfectly.

Guess I've been doing fashion wrong my whole life then.
