Tried making a jacket from a thrifted wool blanket and it worked better than expected

I had this heavy wool blanket from a yard sale that was too scratchy to use. Instead of a pattern, I just laid a jacket I already liked on top of it and cut around the shape, adding about an inch for seams. I used my basic sewing machine and some thick thread from a craft store in Tacoma. The whole thing took maybe three hours and it's now my warmest coat. Anyone else tried making clothes from non-fabric materials?

Ever try sewing with old canvas drop cloths?

Sewing with old drop cloths sounds like a great way to make a bag of dust. That heavy canvas is probably full of grit and paint flecks. Good luck getting that through a machine without breaking a needle.

My cousin tried making a couch cover from a drop cloth last year. She washed it three times in hot water and still found little paint chips in the seams. Her machine made this awful grinding noise the whole time.
