Trying to decide between a hidden zipper or a button placket for a linen dress

I went with the button placket for a more relaxed look, but now I'm worried it might look too casual for a wedding guest outfit. Has anyone used both and have a preference for formal wear?

A hidden zipper always looks more polished for formal events. The button placket can work if you dress it up with fancy shoes and good jewelry, but it's a risk. I'd lean toward the zipper for a wedding to be safe.

But what kind of wedding is it? A backyard afternoon thing vs a fancy evening hotel ballroom makes a huge diff. A linen button dress with heels and a clutch could be perfect for a garden party vibe, but might look underdone in a super formal setting.

Gibson is right that the zipper gives a cleaner line, especially for something like a wedding where you want a polished silhouette. A button front can work if you pick a fabric that drapes well and add some structured accessories like a blazer or tailored bag. Have you considered doing a button placket with a waist tie belt to define the shape more?
