Found out my gravel base was way overkill for residential gates

I saw a spec sheet from a supplier last week that said 6 inches of compacted gravel is enough for most driveway gates under 12 feet, but I've been laying 10 inches for years. Anyone else been told to use less and stick with what works?

Stick with the 10 inches, that extra depth saves you from having to redo the whole thing later.

I once added a whole extra foot of gravel to a gate post and my back still hasn't forgiven me, but hey, no sagging yet.
