Had to choose between a 6-foot cedar post or a steel one for a corner on a windy ridge job in Boulder last month.

I went with the steel post, and it held up perfectly during that big windstorm last week, so what's your go-to for high-wind anchor points?

Wait, you had a choice? I mean, around here they basically make you use steel for anything on a ridge, especially after that fire a few years back. Cedar's nice and all, but idk, maybe it's just me but I wouldn't trust wood alone in a spot like that. Glad the steel worked out for you though, that storm was no joke.

Is the fire risk really that high everywhere though? I've seen cedar roofs hold up fine for decades even in windy spots, seems like maybe some places are just being extra careful now.

Steel every time, @adamwood's right about that.
