Spent $800 on a laser level for a big vinyl fence job and honestly, it felt like a waste.

Tried a laser level for fence posts once, total headache. Ended up using a string line with a line level and a couple of stakes. Got everything straight and level for about fifteen bucks. The laser just couldn't beat the wind and the sun glare on that job. Sometimes the old school way is just faster and more reliable.

Totally agree with @nancy820, string line never fails.

My grandpa has the same rule for fixing anything around his farm. Three years ago he needed to hang a gate perfectly level and spent two hours messing with a digital level before just grabbing a string and a couple of nails. The sun was bouncing off that screen so bad he couldn't see a thing, but the string worked in like ten minutes. It's funny how the simple stuff always cuts through the nonsense, whether it's fence posts or hanging a picture frame.
