My $80 kimchi experiment turned into a science project gone wrong

I bought a fancy fermentation crock from a kitchen store in Denver, thinking it would make everything easier. After two weeks, the whole batch smelled like feet and I had to toss 5 pounds of cabbage and veggies. Should I just stick with regular jars or did I get a bad crock?

Honestly... I've had way more issues with jars than crocks. That foot smell usually means oxygen got in and bad bacteria took over. A good crock should have a water seal that keeps air out better than a burping jar. Maybe the seal wasn't set right, or the weight wasn't keeping everything fully under the brine. I'd try the crock one more time before giving up on it.

Ugh, my last batch smelled so bad I almost called the health department on myself.
