Some say a microwave is all you need for quick meals, while others swear a toaster oven is better for real cooking, so what's best for a first-time buyer on a tight budget?

My buddy tried to make garlic bread in his microwave last week, it came out like a warm sponge. Found a toaster oven at a yard sale for ten bucks and now he's making actual crispy food.

Watched my friend try to bake frozen pizza in a microwave once... it was a sad, soggy mess. @wyattc77's toast burns came to mind, honestly. She found a used toaster oven for cheap and it changed everything.
