I thought getting a home inspection was just a box to check, but ours found a cracked sewer line.
I mean, our realtor in Tacoma said we should do it, but I figured it was just a formality. The inspector found a crack in the main sewer line under the driveway that would have cost like $8,000 to fix. The sellers had to cover it before closing. Has anyone else had an inspection find something that major and actually saved them?

Wait, it was under the driveway? That's wild!

Glad you listened to your realtor on that one. I almost skipped mine too thinking it was all just common sense stuff you could spot yourself. Turned out the crawlspace had a slow leak under the vapor barrier that would have rotted out the whole floor system in a few years. @haydenj90 you and I both got lucky we didn't skip that step, saved ourselves a fortune instead of making a terrible offer look attractive.

Yeah, that "just a formality" feeling is so real. Our inspector found old knob and tube wiring all through the attic that was a total fire hazard, like @dianagreen said about the sewer line being wild, it was hidden like that too. The fix was going to be crazy expensive and the sellers had to deal with it. It felt like we almost skipped the inspection to make our offer look better, so glad we didn't. That one report saved us from a massive money pit.
