My photo-based offer led to a nasty surprise.

Always visit a home in person before you bid.

Learned that the hard way when I bought a rug online that looked huge in the picture. Showed up and it was basically a fancy bath mat. Photos can lie harder than a kid with a stolen cookie.

That "photos can lie" thing hits home. I once bought a concert ticket from a guy who sent a picture of the ticket on his kitchen counter. Looked totally real. Met him in a parking lot, handed over cash, and the barcode was completely faded when I got inside. Learned my lesson about trusting a single image. What did you end up doing with the rug, just keep it?

Bought a vintage guitar online based on pictures alone. The photos made it look mint, all shiny and clean. When the box showed up, the body had a huge crack hidden by the lighting. The seller swore it was perfect in the listing. I lost a chunk of money on that deal. Now I never buy anything big without seeing it myself first.
