Warning: I avoided fixer-uppers, but a budget reality check changed my view.
I always wanted a move-in ready home for my first buy. Seeing the high prices made me look at houses needing work. How do you balance cost with the effort of repairs?

Budget reality check" changed my plans too, for better or worse.

That budget squeeze is so real. Read a piece last week saying people often lowball the repair costs and time. It advised adding 20% to your estimated budget for surprises. Projects always drag on longer than planned, eating into your sanity. But if you pick the right fights, like cosmetic over structural, you can save big. Just be real about what you can actually handle yourself.
