Can we talk about the cheap plastic knee pads from the big box store?

I bought a pair for $25 last month and the strap broke after two jobs, costing me a half day of work and about $300 in lost time while I scrambled for a replacement.

Man, does that ever hit home. What is it with those cheap pads that makes them fall apart the second you actually need them? I had the same thing happen with a pair of gloves last year, and losing half a day over a broken strap is just brutal. It feels like the store brands are built to last exactly one job past the return window. That lost time is the real cost, and it stings way more than the twenty-five bucks.

The stitching on my last pair gave out in under a week.

Honestly @patel.logan, you're right about that lost time being the real killer. What gets me is the strap design itself. Why do they always use that flimsy plastic buckle and thin fabric that just frays apart? My last pair had the stitching come undone on the velcro after one day kneeling on gravel. It's not just a strap breaking, it's the whole thing being made to look okay on the shelf but failing at the one job it has.
