Hot take: If you're still using a standard utility knife to cut LVP planks, you're making a 3 hour job take 6.

I watched a guy on a job in Tempe last month try to score and snap a 7-inch plank 8 times before it finally broke clean, and switching to a hook blade with a carbide tip lets you zip through a full box in under 30 minutes, so what's your go-to cutting tool for that stuff?

Oh man, that sounds painful. I switched to a basic oscillating tool with a fine-tooth blade. Cuts like butter and no more jagged edges.

Wait, is my tool collection just a graveyard of bad choices? I bought one of those oscillating tools for a floorboard project and ended up with a blister from holding it so long. The cut was clean, but I could have grown a beard in the time it took.

But those oscillating tools are so slow for any real cut. I was trimming some door casings last week and it took forever. A sharp handsaw would have been done in half the time. The blades also get crazy hot and wear out fast on anything harder than drywall. For clean edges, I just use a good old back saw with a guide. It's cheaper and you get more control.
