Shoutout to the vet who schooled me on floor transitions
I had a job where the laminate and tile met at different heights. He showed me how to cut a custom reducer from scrap, saving the install. How do you handle height differences between floors?

Cutting a reducer from scrap is clever for small differences, but it can wear down faster. A molded transition strip is made for this and lasts longer under foot traffic. Still, that vet's trick is a solid save for a tight spot.

That part about the vet's trick being a solid save for a tight spot, @sullivan.abby, is the whole thing. It's a pattern you see everywhere. People make a quick fix with what they have because the perfect tool or part doesn't fit the real world problem. The "right" thing is often made for a perfect, clean situation that doesn't exist. So you hack it. The hack might not last as long, but it gets the job done now when you need it done.

Lasting that long a big deal?
