Showerthought: That one time I had to fix a wavy laminate floor by myself
It was buckling in the middle of the room, and I figured out the underlayment was too thick. Just swapped it for a thinner one and it laid flat like a charm.

Always blamed moisture, but underlayment thickness is key.

What thickness are you talking about? I've seen people skip the thicker underlayment to save money, but then they get way more noise transfer between floors. The good stuff also makes the floor feel way more solid underfoot, not just squishy like thin foam.
