Found a better way to keep hydrangeas from wilting in the truck

I used to just wrap the stems in wet paper towels for deliveries, but half the time they'd still droop by arrival. After a bad batch last summer, a grower in Fresno told me to dunk the whole flower head in cool water for 15 minutes before boxing. I tried it on a $200 wedding order last week and they stayed perfect for 6 hours. Has anyone else tried this soak method for long hauls?

That dunk trick reminds me of how we used to ice down lettuce heads before a farmers market run... same idea.

My grandpa did the same thing with his tomatoes, robinson.jake. That cold shock really does keep things crisp. Makes total sense for lettuce too.
