Hot take: My grandma's trick for dahlias still works better than anything new

Back when I was learning, my grandma showed me how to sear dahlia stems with a candle flame to make them last. Everyone moved on to commercial flower food packets because it's faster. I kept doing it her way, even though it takes an extra minute per stem. Last week, I had a big order for a hotel lobby that needed to stay fresh for days. My seared dahlias looked perfect three days later when the packet-treated ones from another vendor were wilting. The client called specifically to compliment the lasting power. It felt good knowing that slow, careful method beat the quick fix. Sometimes the old tips are the best ones.

Packet methods usually need the right water pH to work best.

Yeah that's true about the right pH. Most tap water throws it off without you even knowing.
