My client's note made me change where I get flowers

A bride told me her bouquet died really fast after the wedding. I thought about it and saw I was always ordering flowers from other countries. For her friend's party, I bought some tulips from a local grower instead. They looked just as good and stayed alive for over a week. Now I mix local flowers with my usual orders to keep things fresh. It helps the community and my customers love it. Do you mix local blooms into your work?

Local flowers sound good in theory, but in practice, I've had mixed results. The variety is often limited to what's in season, which can clash with client color schemes. Sometimes the stems are shorter or less sturdy than imported ones. Price isn't always better either, with local growers charging premiums for their labor. I stick with reliable suppliers who guarantee freshness, even if they're farther away. It just works better for the consistency my clients expect.

Shipping adds its own environmental costs they never mention.
