Pro tip: Found a weird fact about rose water that changed how I store it

I was reading an old gardening book from the library and it mentioned that rose water loses its scent potency by almost 50% if it's kept in clear glass bottles in direct light for over 3 months. I always kept my small batch in a clear vase on the windowsill for arranging... now I've moved it to a dark cabinet in a brown glass bottle. Has anyone else tested how light affects their floral waters or extracts?

My grandma always stored her lavender water in a blue glass bottle in the pantry, said it kept the smell strong.

Oh, that's a neat trick, @bailey.susan... my aunt did the same thing.

Aw man that's so true! The color of the glass actually filters different light wavelengths. Blue glass blocks UV rays better than clear ones which is why old school medicine bottles were usually blue or brown. Your grandma knew what was up with that lavender water trick.
