Shoutout to the florist who taught me about stem shaving at a workshop in Charlotte

I kept seeing roses wilt in two days, and she showed me how to gently shave the outer layer off the last inch of the stem with a paring knife instead of just cutting it. My roses now last a full week in the cooler because it helps them drink way more water. Do you all shave stems or just stick with the angled cut?

My grandma taught me that same trick with her peonies in Ohio.

But is it really that big a deal, @lucas587?

Oh wow, I always thought that was just an old wives' tale. Hearing it worked for someone's grandma makes me believe it.
