My cousin's ranch on grilled salmon at a BBQ made everyone freeze.

We were all at a family cookout when he slapped the fish on the grill. After it was done, he drowned it in ranch straight from the bottle, and nobody knew what to say. Do people actually like that combo, or was it just him being weird?

Ever seen someone put ranch on a steak? My friend Dan does it all the time, idk how he eats it.

Honestly, that tracks. If you grow up with ranch on everything, it just becomes the default sauce. It's less about taste and more about a familiar feeling, you know? So Dan's probably not even tasting the steak anymore.

In some Midwest diners, ranch comes standard with every meal, even steak. It's less about the meat and more about the creamy texture cutting through a charred outside. I knew a guy who would only eat well-done steak drowned in ranch, saying it reminded him of school cafeteria food. That might be Dan's deal, a nostalgic fix for overcooked beef. Ranch can mask a lot of sins, like a cheap cut or a heavy hand with the salt. So maybe it's not weird, just a very specific way to deal with bad cooking.
