Trying to describe 'Eureeka's Castle' to my niece was a mistake.
She asked if puppets are still a thing.

Honestly, that hit me right in the childhood. It's wild that puppets seem like ancient history to kids now. Eureeka's Castle was my jam after school every day. Puppets had so much personality and charm. They feel way more real than a lot of today's flashy cartoons. It's a shame that kind of magic is fading away.

A PBS article last month said only 2% of new preschool shows use puppets. It explained that networks think cartoons are easier to sell toys for. That handmade magic from shows like Eureeka's Castle is getting replaced by flashy graphics. What a shame to lose that kind of storytelling!

You're right about the charm, but that handmade magic isn't totally gone. My niece loves a new puppet show on PBS called Alma's Way.
